highland lake is a wonderful property. i lived just down the road from there and would visit often. it does feel like you are in the middle of nowhere but a 5 min. from all you need

If you haven’t done it. You should do a story on the Echo Mountain Inn which is nearby and has an interesting history. I almost hesitate to post this because it’s a hidden gem In Hendersonville but on Mountain top yet only about 5-10 min from downtown

I don’t remember it being so great when I lived there. A man and woman actually killed their child in a house down the street from us. Maybe that tainted my view.

My good friend drove from High Point every Saturday he was able too. He told me about how good it was, we had talked about me going with him but I live in Fayetteville. I intend on going in his memory though. Folks this man was Old School, Hard Working and very honest. If he loved it so much he drove that far, I guarantee they’re good 👍🏻 I drive to Siler City for the best hamburgers, I’m going to Greensboro for the best hotdogs soon. Ty Darrell K

Don't let the yanks know about this place , they will ruin it by moving to Clay county . They already Invaded the Towns around Asheville and Jack up the prices of EVERYTHING , Lot of people from FLA , NE , CA settled in these areas .

What a home, beautiful setting, great book collection, time warping to the ‘50 s. Great husband and wife team. Wonderful Progressive, poet, and Lincoln author. Visited many times! Definitely a Bucket List place like Hyde Park, the FDR’s Little White House, Lincoln’s Springfield, Monticello, etc.

All of my Mother's folks grew up in and around Traphill. She was a prodigy of the McBrides of Greenstreet Mountain and the Bauguss' of North Wilkesboro. My great aunt Ruth Billings was the Postmistress in Traphill (28685) for many years and her husband and her lived in the back of the post office with her husband Roy. I can remember when my 2nd cousin James Billings' room would have been the apartment described in the vid. As a child I loved to go to the Post Office and help raise and lower the American flag out front. I also bet those trout streams described involved a tributary of the Roaring River called Garden Creek. I believe the old Garden Creek church is still standing along one of the Stone Mountain gravel roads. I sure hope it's still gravel, asphalt just wouldn't do in the serene surrounds. Memories abound for me in and around Traphill and as the saying goes, 'I wouldn't take anything for them!'
